My new year started out the same as the old year ended, with me battling the creeping crud. I was in Florida to see my beloved Hokies play a really crappy football game (at least they won, so it could have been worse……but not much) and woke up sick the morning after we returned. The silver lining is that there has been lots of football to entertain me while I’m curled up under the covers. This is day three with the stuff, so hopefully tomorrow will be better.
While on the LOOOOOOONG bus ride to and from Orlando, I had lots of time to ponder many things. I won’t amaze (i.e. scare) you with all the workings of my bored mind, so let’s just jump to the inevitable point where I reflected on my New Year’s resolutions. First off, I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. Oh, I make them – I just don’t DO them. So my first resolution is to actually do a resolution. My second resolution is the resolution that needs the doing (Is this making sense? My brain is flu addled).
While I was thinking all the thoughts that needed thinking on the bus (why does this line remind me of the Wizard of Oz? …and why do I seem to mention the Wizard of Oz frequently?) I realized that I started martial arts to get in shape, but I’ve learned that I need to be in shape to do martial arts. (Did anyone ever figure out that chicken vs. egg thing?) So, and I am aghast to say it, I have decided that my New Year’s resolution is to have a month long fitness event each month, with January’s goal to be a burpees challenge (yikes!). So, this works by doing the number of burpees as the day of the month. So on the first (oh geez, that’s today) you do one burpee, on the 17th you do 17 burpees, etc. Now, I am going to give myself a break here and not do them all at once – I’ll spread them throughout the day if necessary (ha ha – I said if). As an added bonus, the burpees have a push up built in, so that should help with my upper body strength also. So here goes…………..I’m going to do one……………did I mention that I am sick? ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. I need to go barf now.

Hope you feel better soon!
